One week

It's been one week of August, and there have been some setbacks.

Most big missions/quests/things that are worth taking the time out to do are worth doing. I never saw myself as someone who had difficulty hanging on to money. Financial independence, working hard to pay my way- these are values I've always seen in myself. But after setting up this challenge for myself, I'm becoming more and more aware of the ways in which money bleeds out. It takes a lot of time, and energy, to keep track of every dime. It's harder still to focus on my own life and what's important to me, even through the problems life sends others.

Someone said to me "There will always be things to buy. There will always be problems and situations where you can talk yourself into spending money. Stopping before every purchase to think "What if I didn't have any money?" helps to realign your necessities, and see that perhaps that nice watch or extra bag of chips really isn't necessary."

I have saved approximately 7% of my last paycheck, which came in on Friday. Next Friday, I intend to save 20%, to reach has close as possible to that 30% goal. I may not reach it this month, but it won't be too bad for the first time. For those of you looking to try and save more, to find fiscal responsibility for the first time, or perhaps to revisit it like an old friend, I'd highly recommend "The year of less" by Cait Flanders. It's where I got most of the spending ban items, where i got the idea, and it's inspired me to becoming better at managing my money, and myself.

I'll be back next week with some pictures, both of my surgery (On Monday, August 13th) and of my time from eastern Washington this weekend!

Until then-

Corey
