Factoring Faith

"How do you relate your faith with your social activism?"

I've spoken with a few people who have very different opinions on the state of things. "Homosexuality is an abomination" and "A women without virginity out of wedlock should be shunned" or "if all sin is abhorrent, why do you spend time with the people you do?" These questions seem so difficult for some, thrown under my nose with an "AHA! GOTCHA!" undertone. It's so befuddling to me how those who claim to know so much can overlook the smallest of grand importances. From some peoples point of view, I'm breaking bread with sinners. Yet those same people tell me to follow Christs example. Are those two things not one in the same? I find upright self-righteous "holy" values as obstructionist at it's base.

A message to those who don't know what I mean, but believe as I do- when Christ was here, who did he spend time with? What did he teach? I mean, these are fundementalist beliefs. You don't have to live like others or whatever. But you can't shun those who don't believe like you or who act in a way you find "Sinful" simply for the sake of "saving your soul". What "merit" or biblical justification is there in spending time only with those who believe and love as you?

To those who don't know what I mean, and don't believe as me- the most basic function of my faith is to love people. Love others. Be kind, laugh, and trust in God to see and act in ways that are beyond me. What's insane to me is how well those who don't believe as I do understand this simple tenant.

And I guess I'm a little tired of explaining myself. Does any of this make sense?
